Clinton River Photo Session

Behind the Scenes of a Headshot Session with Clever Fox Bikes

At Julie Allison Photography, we pride ourselves on creating a fun and memorable experience for every client. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with the fantastic team from Clever Fox Bikes in Auburn Hills for a headshot session like no other. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Clinton River, this session was a blend of professionalism and light-hearted moments that perfectly captured the spirit of these dynamic individuals.

Setting the Scene

When the guys from Clever Fox Bikes contacted us for their headshots, they wanted something unique that reflected their adventurous and spirited brand. The banks of the Clinton River provided the perfect setting, with its natural beauty and serene environment offering a refreshing change from the typical studio backdrop.

As we arrived at the location, the guys were already buzzing with excitement. The gentle sound of the river flowing, combined with the lush greenery, set a calm yet invigorating atmosphere. The guys from Clever Fox Bikes, dressed in their brand’s casual attire, were ready to show their best selves.

Individual Headshots

We started with individual headshots, capturing each team member’s unique personality. With the river as our backdrop, we used strobe and natural light to highlight their features, ensuring each shot was both authentic and professional. Each team member brought their own flair to the session, making it easy to capture their individuality.

I guided each person on how to pose naturally, providing tips on angles and expressions. The key to a great headshot is making the subject feel comfortable and confident, and with this energetic crew, that was no challenge at all. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it showed in every shot.

Group Photos with a Twist

After the individual headshots, it was time for some group photos. We wanted to do something special that would not only highlight their camaraderie but also give them a set of photos that felt more like an album cover than corporate headshots. The idea was to capture their unity and spirit in a way that was both professional and fun.

We had the guys balance on the rocks on the edge of the Clinton River. This added a touch of adventure to the shoot and brought out genuine smiles and laughter. It was a bit tricky to get everyone balanced and posed just right, but the challenge made the session even more enjoyable.

Throughout the session, I was there, guiding and setting up each shot. We shared plenty of laughs as I instructed them to strike various poses, some serious and some downright hilarious. The guys fully embraced the album cover concept, and their playful energy shone through in the photos.

Capturing the Moment

The beauty of outdoor shoots lies in their unpredictability and the natural elements that can add so much character to the photos. The sunlight glinting off the river, the vibrant green of the surrounding trees, and the sheer joy and camaraderie of the Clever Fox Bikes team made for a series of stunning images.

These behind-the-scenes photos capture the true essence of the experience.

The Final Shots

By the end of the session, we had a collection of individual and group photos that beautifully represented the Clever Fox Bikes team. Each image told a story of adventure, teamwork, and the genuine bonds between these colleagues.

This session was a wonderful reminder of why I love what I do. Capturing not just the faces but the personalities and stories behind them is what makes photography so special. Working with the Clever Fox Bikes team was an absolute pleasure, and I can’t wait to see how they use these photos to represent their brand.

Conclusion

At Julie Allison Photography, we strive to create experiences that are as memorable as the photos themselves. This headshot session with Clever Fox Bikes was a perfect example of how stepping outside the studio and embracing the natural beauty of our surroundings can result in truly remarkable images. If you’re looking for headshots that capture your true essence, consider an outdoor session – you never know what wonderful moments we’ll capture together.

Why Summertime is Perfect for Your Photography Session

As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, summer presents the ideal season for capturing stunning photographs. At Julie Allison Photography, we believe that summer is the best time to schedule your photography session. Whether you’re looking to document a special occasion or simply want to update your portfolio with fresh images, here are several reasons why summer is the perfect time.

1.  Abundant Natural Light Summer offers an abundance of natural light, extending from early morning until late evening. This extended daylight allows for flexibility in scheduling your session, ensuring we can capture you in the best possible light. From the soft, golden hues of sunrise and sunset to the bright, crisp midday sun, each lighting scenario adds a unique touch to your photos.

2.  Golden Hour Magic The long summer days mean more opportunities to catch the golden hour—the period shortly after sunrise and before sunset when the light is soft and warm. This magical light can transform your photos, casting a beautiful glow that enhances your features and adds depth and dimension to each shot.

3.  Vibrant Colors and Lush Backdrops Summertime is synonymous with vibrant colors and lush landscapes. Flowers are in full bloom, trees are at their greenest, and the sky often boasts brilliant blue hues. These rich, saturated colors create stunning backdrops that make your photos pop with life and energy.

4.  Dynamic Weather Patterns Summer weather is dynamic, offering a variety of conditions that can make for dramatic and compelling photographs. From clear, sunny skies to sudden thunderstorms, each weather pattern presents unique opportunities to capture different moods and atmospheres. Imagine the excitement of a dramatic sky in the background or the refreshing feel of a post-rain photoshoot.

5.  Outdoor Activities and Events Summer is a season of outdoor activities and events. Whether you’re attending a festival, enjoying a family picnic, or simply taking a stroll in the park, these lively atmospheres provide a wealth of natural, candid moments to capture. The joy and vibrancy of summer activities can add a special charm to your photos.

6.  Travel and Exploration Summer is a popular time for travel, offering endless possibilities for stunning photography locations. Whether you’re exploring exotic destinations or discovering hidden gems in your local area, travel provides unique and picturesque backdrops for your photos. Beaches, mountains, lakes, and cities all come to life in the summer sun.

7.  Wildlife and Nature Photography If you’re a nature enthusiast, summer is an excellent time for wildlife and nature photography. Many animals are more active during the warmer months, and the proliferation of insects, birds, and other wildlife provides a rich tapestry of subjects. The lush greenery and blooming flowers also make for beautiful, natural settings.

8.  Night Photography Clear summer nights are perfect for night photography. With the Milky Way often visible, star trails, and other celestial events like meteor showers, summer offers a fantastic opportunity to capture the night sky. The mild temperatures make it comfortable to spend extended periods outside, capturing the beauty of the stars.

Tips for Your Summertime Photography Session

  • Dress Comfortably: Choose outfits that are comfortable and suit the summer weather, keeping in mind the colors and styles that best reflect your personality.
  • Stay Hydrated: Carry plenty of water and stay hydrated, especially during long outdoor shoots.
  • Embrace the Elements: Don’t be afraid to embrace the natural elements, whether it’s a gentle breeze or the warm sun. These can add a dynamic touch to your photos.
  • Plan Ahead: Discuss your vision and preferred locations with your photographer ahead of time to make the most of your session.

Summertime offers the perfect conditions for capturing beautiful, vibrant photographs that you’ll cherish for years to come. Whether it’s the golden hour glow, lush landscapes, or dynamic weather, summer provides a stunning backdrop for your photoshoot. At Julie Allison Photography, we’re ready to help you step into the sunshine and let the season’s magic shine through in your photos!

Capturing Memorable Family Moments: Three Essential Tips for Photo Sessions

1. Embrace the Fun: Make the most of the golden hour’s enchanting light, even if it means pushing bedtime a bit. Relaxation is key—approach the session as a delightful family outing rather than a formal event. Setting a positive tone and emphasizing the excitement of the adventure helps children feel at ease. Consider it a special occasion, complete with treats to make the experience memorable. Ensuring children are well-rested and fed beforehand can also enhance their comfort during the session.

2. Let Kids Lead: While posed portraits are valuable, some of the most cherished images arise when children are given the freedom to explore and express themselves. Encourage playfulness, curiosity, and spontaneity, allowing for genuine interactions and emotions to be captured. By following their lead, you’ll capture authentic family moments that reflect the unique dynamics and personalities within your family.

3. Cherish Every Moment: Beyond the practical reasons for booking a photo session, remember the deeper significance behind the images. They serve as timeless reminders of the love, connection, and everyday joys shared within your family. Embrace the imperfections and unpredictability of family life, knowing that these “little” moments are the true essence of your family’s story. Trust your photographer to capture the beauty of motherhood and family life, even amidst the less-than-perfect moments, as they are what truly define your family’s journey.

Until next time!

Dressing for Success: Best Practices for Photo Sessions

Coordinate, Don’t Match: Coordinate colors, patterns, and styles for a visually appealing ensemble. Choose complementary tones that work well together to create cohesion without appearing too uniform.

Location and Theme Consideration: Select outfits that complement the backdrop and theme of your photo session. Opt for earthy tones for natural settings, breezy fabrics for beach shoots, and modern attire for urban environments.

Texture and Layers: Add depth to your outfits by incorporating texture and layers. Experiment with scarves, cardigans, or jackets, especially for outdoor shoots or colder weather, using textured fabrics like lace, knitwear, or denim.

Avoid Busy Patterns and Logos: Opt for subtle patterns or solid colors to avoid distractions in photographs. Busy prints and logos can detract from the main focus of the images—you and your loved ones.

Dress for Your Body Type: Choose outfits that flatter your body type and make you feel confident. Avoid overly baggy or tight-fitting clothes, as they can distort your silhouette in photos.

Accessorize Thoughtfully: Enhance your ensemble with carefully chosen accessories. Select a few key pieces—such as statement jewelry, hats, or belts—that complement your attire without overwhelming the overall look.

Timeless Over Trendy: Opt for timeless and classic outfits that will age well in photographs. While trendy styles may be tempting, neutral colors and simple silhouettes often stand the test of time.

Try a Test Run: Before the photo session, try on your outfits to assess how they look together. Pay attention to how colors, textures, and styles interact to ensure a coordinated look on the day of the shoot.

Comfort is Key: Prioritize comfort when choosing your photo session outfits. Select fabrics that allow for movement and breathability, especially for outdoor shoots or active poses.

Following these best practices will ensure that your outfits enhance the beauty of your photos, creating lasting memories that you’ll cherish for years to come. So, have fun with your outfit choices and let your unique style shine through!

Until next time!

Finding the Perfect Location for Your Photo Session

Exploring Nearby Gems: Discovering a stunning photo spot may be closer than you think—your own backyard could be the hidden gem you’ve been searching for. Nearby areas often boast picturesque features such as rivers, rapids, bridges, and blooming flowers, offering a variety of natural backdrops to choose from.

Urban Charm vs. Natural Beauty: From parks to city streets, the choice of location is vast. Even urban settings, like downtown Detroit, offer unique backdrops like vibrant graffiti walls. While a cool backdrop isn’t always necessary, it can add an extra layer of interest to your photos, reflecting your style and personality.

Aligning with Your Photographer’s Vision: Discussing location preferences with your photographer is crucial for ensuring your vision aligns with theirs. Whether you prefer the charm of natural elements or the urban vibe of cityscapes, clarity on location sets the stage for a successful photo session.

The Photographer’s Signature Style: Every photographer has a unique style that influences their choice of location and composition. For photographers like myself who favor a natural aesthetic, elements like flowers, brick walls, rivers, and bridges serve as ideal backdrops, adding depth and character to the images.

Embracing the Golden Hour: Golden hour—the hour preceding sunset—holds a special allure for photographers and their subjects alike. The soft, natural light during this time creates a magical ambiance, enhancing colors and adding warmth to the photos. Scheduling your photo sessions during golden hour ensures optimal lighting conditions for captivating images.

Anticipating Tomorrow’s Insights: Stay tuned for more tips and insights as we continue our journey through the art of photography, exploring techniques, trends, and everything in between. Until then, keep capturing those memorable moments!

Until next time!

Welcome to My Photography Blog!

As a photographer, I never anticipated the need for a blog. However, I realized the importance of creating a platform to connect with my clients and fellow photographers alike.

It’s essential for my clients to get to know me, just as I strive to understand them when they consider booking a photography session.

So, who am I? My name is Julie, and I’m the proud owner of Julie Allison Photography. Beyond capturing moments behind the lens, I’m also a devoted mother to two incredible adults and a mother-in-law to their wonderful spouses. By day, I navigate the world of graphic design at a large church in Michigan, and in my spare time, I indulge in beading and scrapbooking.

As for my gear, I’m currently a devoted Canon user. While I’ve dabbled with Nikon in the past, my heart belongs to the Canon RP—a mirrorless camera that has won me over. I also cherish my trusty old companion, my first-ever Canon, the Rebel XSi (yes, it’s an older model, but it still gets the job done!).

Now, why the blog? I wanted to provide valuable insights and information to my clients, helping them understand what to expect before, during, and after a photo session with me.

I hope you’ll find the daily updates on this blog helpful as you search for the perfect photographer for your next photo session.

Until next time!
